1. Manakula Vinayaga Temple


It’s a wonderful place for worship which is situated in the white town of Pondicherry. This temple is an air-conditioned temple.  You can see lots of sculptures and paintings of Lord Ganesha and also can find Ganesha paintings all over the temple walls and ceilings which depicts the life of Lord Ganesha. You will have a feel of holiness when you enter this temple. The star attraction- Laxmi, an adorable elephant, graces every evening, and she is famous among the tourist as well as locals. Children are more attracted to the elephant. The elephant blesses you by placing its Trunk on your head, on receiving offerings like banana or coins. She is adorable, and the feeling is magical. One of the must visit place if in Pondicherry.

  1. Promenade Beach


Promenade beach or Rock Beach is an iconic place in Pondicherry. The flowing wind is refreshing, and the rhythm of waves is rejuvenating. A well maintained and neatly kept beach for those who seek a peace of mind and a good place to relax. The best time to experience and feel the beauty of The Bay of Bengal is during sunrise or sunset. It’s a good place to spend time with family and friends.  Be it taking a stroll in the evening, or the night, the beach is spectacular and peaceful. During the daytime, the road next to the beach allows vehicles, while in the evening there is no vehicle entry permitted and allowed people to stroll and jog comfortably. This is ideal for those who wish to socialize with locals and other joggers.

  1. Sri Aurobindo Ashram


Aurobindo Ashram is a precious place where Sri Aurobindo and Mother lived most of the time in Pondicherry, and it’s the best place for meditation. The silence of the place is the most beautiful part, and it’s filled with heavenly aroma. It’s one of the very calm and peaceful places in the World. In this quiet place, you can sit down and meditate near the marble Samadhi which is the resting place of Sri Aurobindo and Mother. You also get to see the belongings of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother, plus there’s a small stall of books where you can browse books and magazines related to the Ashram activity, and there is a small lovely garden too. They don’t charge you anything for entering there. But remember that there are timings. It closes at 6:00 pm.

RAJ NIVAS Governor House

Raj Nivas is a heritage building built during 18th century by the French people and known as Palais du Governor. It’s now a government building where Governor stays. It’s neat, clean and well-maintained building. It’s open to visitors from Monday to Saturday between noon to 1.30pm with prior booking through online. It’s situated within the French colony where the Promenade beach and Bharati Park are nearby.

Bharathi Park is one of the main attractions in Pondicherry. A well maintained and neatly kept park for those who seek a peace of mind and it’s a good place to roam around which is located in the heart of the city. If you get a chance to be at Pondicherry, never miss this place. Good place for meditation too.

Aayi Mandapam, an iconic structure in the middle is quite an attraction, and this park monument is built during Napolean period of 16th century. Many of the famous places are just a few minutes away from here.

  1. Sacred Heart Church


Sacred Heart Church is located opposite to Pondicherry Railway Station. It is of Neo-Gothic architecture building built.  The church is big and spacious and beautiful. The shrine is lovely, and all over there are beautiful stained glass paintings of saints/ depictions from the bible. Internal structure and decorative work will leave you speechless.

Auroville is an iconic destination in Pondicherry as the spectacular architecture of Matri Mandir Globe is nowhere in the world. It is known to be a universal town where people from different countries live here. Auroville is founded by Sri Aurobindo and The Mother to form a spiritual community where the vision is that the people should live in peace and harmony.  The people who live in Auroville is known to be Aurovillians, and they run a lot of projects like IT, school, organic farming, renewable energy, handicrafts production and they employ around 5000 villagers in all these projects.

Chunambar Boat House is a popular recreational and boating spot in Pondicherry which has lush greenery on either side of the backwater. In this boat house, you have a small restaurant and kids play area where the kids will enjoy a lot. You can just have a boat ride, or you can reach paradise beach through ferry which is a beautiful and clean place to relax with family and friends.  You have a seaside restaurant in this Paradise beach. The golden sand and the musical rhythm of waves are enjoyable.

Botanical Garden is another famous place in Pondicherry, and it has a wide variety of rare and exotic plants. There are fountains, mini train, Japanese rock which makes an interesting place for all visitors especially for kids.  The French style landscaping, flower bed, and walkway attract the people to this place. There is a mini aquarium in this garden which has a lot of ornamental fish which is an additional interesting thing in this garden.

Pondicherry has a small museum where it showcases different galleries. It is located in the city and accessible by walk from the white town.  This Museum has a spectacular collection of artifacts of French Colonial period. In one section which is furnished in the French style and decorated with Marble statuary paintings, mirrors, clocks and also exhibits the bed used by Dupleix. It also displayed the rare bronze and stone sculptures from the Pallava and Chola period. It has also accommodated the artifacts excavated from the Arikamedu. The museum has wide collections ranging from the armory to coins, from stones to furniture, from paintings to the vehicle. A must visit to know the history of the place where you go.
