Obtaining a passport can easily be done online. The online process requires that one has to pay the appropriate processing fee before an appointment is scheduled. The payment can be done through debit/credit card or SBI Challan & Wallet Payment. Passport fee may vary depending on the type of passport, that is, the fee for Normal is different from the fee charge for Tatkaal.
For regular or normal passport applications the fees are as follows:

The passport will be processed quickly under tatkal category with an additional amount of Rs.2000. Given below is the fee for Tatkal category for a various case.

Online Payment has been made necessary for booking appointments at all PSKs.
Note:
Any applicant applying online under the Tatkaal can only pay the fee which applies to the Normal Category. Once an application is accepted under the Tatkaal Category, the remaining fee balance should be paid in “cash” at the Passport Seva Kendra/Passport Office.
Chargeback/Refunds
All passport-related services fee is strictly non-refundable, and therefore no chargebacks or returns will be accepted. However, if multiple payments for the same ARN or any other miscellaneous service, the claims for refund will be handled by the extant policy governing them.
In case an applicant opts not to schedule an appointment online and visits the Passport Seva Kendra Office, they can pay their fee in cash.
Q1: Can I get a refund once I cancel an appointment?
A: No. All processed payments cannot be refunded.
Q2: Can I be refunded if I have not booked an appointment?
A: No. Once payment has been made, refunds cannot be accepted.
Q3: Is it possible for me to transfer my paid fee from one Application Reference Number (ARN) to another ARN?
A: No. It is not possible to make any transfer of fee from one ARN to another ARN.
Q4: What happens if I don’t have an SBI Bank account?
A: There are other payment methods that are supported by PSK which includes any debit/credit card belonging to other banks or SBI Challan. Note that this alternative method is only applicable for online payments.
Q5: What happens if I make multiple payments during a passport application?
A: A refund can be made by the concerned RPO for the excess payment.
Q6: How long does the paid fee remain valid?
A: All payment that is successfully processed remain valid for one (1) year from the day of payment. In case you made a payment for an appointment, the fee remains valid for one (1) year from the first date of appointment.
Q7: Is it mandatory to carry the online application ARN receipt to the PSK during the time of appointment?
A: Yes. The online ARN receipt along with other necessary documents should be carried.

Q8: What should I do if the amount is deducted, but the PSP Portal displays a “Pending” Payment Status?
A: To solve this issue, you can wait for one (1) working day and recheck the payment status. To reconfirm the payment, go to the “Application Home”>>”Track Payment Status” and then post the payment confirmation. Once that is done, you can proceed to book your appointment using the “Schedule Appointment” link on the “Application Home” page.
Q9: What action should I take in case the amount paid is deducted from my Credit Card/Debit Card/Net Banking Account, but the PSP Portal displays a Payment Status of “Failed”?
A: If a transaction process fails but a deduction is made on the paying account, then a full refund can be done within seven (7) working days. However, the applicant should contact their respective BANK for the amount to be credited to their account.
In case the refund is not made within the stipulated time, you can contact customer service through email (customercare.00691@sbi.co.in) or call helpdesk through the phone number 011-41561114. All calls should be made between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Note that all transaction details will be required such as the Application Reference Number, Transaction ID, Payment Amount and the Transaction Date.
Q10: What does SMS Service mean?
A: This is an optional value-added service in which applicants willing to get SMS alerts about their passport application progress can subscribe to.
Q11: How can I subscribe to the SMS Service?
A: You can subscribe to the service during your initial application process by selecting “SMS Services”. A subscription fee of Rs. 45 (applicable tax included) should be paid to the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK). Once the payment is made, a receipt will be issued to the applicant after the successful subscription.
Q12: How much is the “SMS Service” subscription fee?
A: A one-time subscription fee of Rs. 50 (FIFTY ONLY)inclusive of taxes is applicable.
Q13: Is the “SMS Service” fee refundable?
A: No. All payments are not refundable.
Q14: What if I did not select “SMS Service” during the initial application. Can I still subscribe to the service?
A: Yes. You can subscribe to the service via the “Enroll for SMS Services” under “Services” link. Note that once the passport has been processed at the PSK, this option will no longer be available.
